LARC-V 589 spotted at Moorabbin Airport

LARCV stands for: Lighter Amphibious Resupply Cargo Vehicle. This beast is an amphibious truck with a carrying capacity of 5 tonne. It was develped in the USA and used extensively in the Vietnam war. The Australian defence forces were one of a handful of users. There are not a great number of them left. Most have been snapped up by tour operators who take advantage of the amphibious ability to conduct water and land tours. I have seen a couple operating as "DUKW" tours on Queensland's Gold Coast, though the DUKW is an entirely different vehicle. I have alsI was o sen one in the collection at the Army Corps Museum at Bandiana. I was most surprised when this one appeared at Moorabbin. It appears to have been operated by a fire brigade at some stage
